Lurgan school closed ‘due to extreme unforeseen circumstances’

A Co Armagh school has issued a notice stating it will be closed to pupils today (Wednesday) “due to extreme unforeseen circumstances”.

It is understood the school was broken into last night and a small fire started.

Fortunately, according to MLA Doug Beattie, the school janitor was quick to react and two perpetrators were apprehended.

Posting on social media, Lurgan Junior High School, said: “We wholeheartedly apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding during this time”.

While details of the circumstances were not disclosed the school said it was issue further updates in due course.

The notice added: “Please note, that the Balmoral Show Trip will go ahead as planned and pupils should meet outside and in front of the Art rooms.

“Those pupils involved in Ulster Athletics should meet in Mr McDowell’s Gym.”
