Man (48) charged with attempted murder after bomb driven into Lurgan police station

Lurgan Police Station

A 48-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a bomb was driven into Lurgan police station in March.

Detectives from the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch, investigating the incident in March, have charged the man with attempted murder, attempting to cause an explosion, hijacking and possession of explosives with intent to endanger life or damage property.

He is due to appear before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 8.

As is standard procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

The charge follows what police previously described as a “cowardly and widely condemned attack” on Lurgan PSNI station on the night of Monday, March 30.

Detectives from the PSNI’s Terrorism Investigation Unit had earlier arrested three people in connection with the investigation: the 48-year-old man, a 15-year-old boy and a 39-year-old woman.

The teenage boy has since been released pending a report to the PPS.

The 39-year-old woman has been charged with obstructing police. She has been released unconditionally in respect of perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender.

She is expected to appear before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, June 3.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about the attack to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference 1828 of 30/03/26, or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
