A county Armagh man has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison for the attempted robbery of a Domino’s pizza store.
Jason Lavery, 26, of Brownlow Terrace in Lurgan had pleaded guilty at a previous court hearing.
Today (Tuesday) he was sentenced at Lisburn Crown Court to four years and six months for attempted robbery, possession of a firearm with intent and criminal damage.
Detective Constable Ian Cargin from the Reducing Offending Unit in Lurgan said: “The offences date back to late on the evening of Monday, October 3, 2016, when police were contacted by staff from a fast food takeaway at Gilpinstown Road in Lurgan, to report that a man wearing a mask and armed with a firearm had entered their premises and demanded money.
“Officers were immediately tasked to attend, and on the way to the scene spotted a male matching the description given, making his way from the area.
“The male was stopped by police and arrested a short time later.”
Detective Constable Cargin continued: “The speed of the policing response and professionalism of the attending officers was essential in the arrest of this dangerous individual.
“The subsequent investigation, leading to the successful prosecution of Lavery, is proof of policing making a difference and our determination to keep people safe.”
Lavery will serve half this term in prison and half on licence.
