Modified firework left in front garden prompts Lurgan security alert

A security alert in the James Street area of Lurgan has ended.

Police received a report just before 10.30am today, Monday 12th October, that a window had been smashed at a home and the resident had then discovered a suspicious object in the front garden.

Local policing Inspector Lawson said: “Officers attended the scene and located a potential explosive device.

“As a result, a number of local residents were evacuated and cordons put in place to allow a more thorough examination of the item to be carried out by Ammunition Technical Officers.

“The item, a modified firework, was found to be crude – but still had the capability to cause significant damage, or injury.

“All cordons have now been lifted from the area and residents returned to their homes.

“We understand the disruption caused as this public safety operation was carried out, and thank the local community for their patience.

“Our enquiries are ongoing, and we would appeal to anyone with any information to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 445 12/10/26.”
