New swimming pool for children with disabilities and complex needs planned at Moira

At the heart of the fully-accessible complex is a 20 metres by 10 metres pool

Moira swimming plans

A new swimming pool for children with disabilities and complex needs could be built in Moira.

Proposals for the development – on a site at 49 Halfpenny Gate Road – have been submitted to Lisburn and Castlereagh Borough Council for consideration.

If approved, the plans would see a fully-wheelchair accessible development to provide tuition for young people with special and complex needs.

At the heart of the new facility is a 20 metres by 10 metres pool.

The proposals also include a number of family changing areas and toilet provision, as well as office and storage facilities.

Nine parking spaces, including minibus parking, is also incorporated.

The new development bears the logo ‘Swim With Billy’ to the front of the planned premises.

Learn to Swim With Billy is run by popular local instructor William Stenhouse, who offers tuition to both adults and children.

It is he who has lodged the proposals with council and the application is due to be advertised shortly, with a decision expected in due course.
