A Lurgan man has been handed a fine after police found cannabis in his home after the execution of a warrant.
The 28-year-old’s solicitor told court the defendant had since gained employment and wished to “meet the matter head-on”.
Christopher Rooney, of Brownlow Terrace, pleaded guilty to possession of a Class B drug at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Court heard that on November 24, police performed a search of the defendant’s home following the execution of a warrant.
During this, officers located a deal bag containing suspected cannabis and other bags containing remnants of the drug.
Rooney was interviewed at Lurgan police station where he identified the substance as herbal cannabis and made full admissions.
Defence solicitor Conor Moriarty stated: “He has put his hands up to this offence. He instructs that the drugs were for personal use.
“Mr Rooney’s circumstances have changed. He has recently obtained employment and has attended court today to meet the matter head-on.”
The defendant was ordered to pay a fine of £250, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within eight weeks.
