Police have made an appeal for witnesses and drivers with dash cam footage following the death of young man in Magheralin on Friday night.
Officers this evening (Saturday) officially confirmed the male pedestrian who died following a road traffic collision on the New Forge Road popular 25-year-old Niall O’Hanlon.
Chief Inspector Jon Burrows said: “The 25-year-old, who was from the local area, was involved in a collision with a white-coloured Skoda Octavia close to junction of Steps Road at around 10.30pm.
“The New Forge Road was closed for a time, but has since re-opened.
“We are appealing for anyone who was on the New Forge Road around the time of the collision, including drivers with a dash cam fitted to their vehicle, and who witnessed anything to contact local officers in Lurgan or the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference 1456 11/05/18.”
Sinn Féin MLA John O’Dowd extended his sympathies to the Mr O’Hanlon’s family and friends.
“I want to send my sympathies, and that of my party, to the family and friends of the young man who lost his life in the most tragic of circumstances in Magheralin on Friday,” he said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very sad time.”
Friends and those who knew Niall paid their own tributes.
One person posted: “RIP Niall you were sum lad you will be missed.”
Another added: “Lost for words. Niall you were a legend brightening up every room you entered. Will miss you my friend. My thoughts and prayers are with all your family and team mates.”
Tributes and condolences from many other local clubs were posted.
Magheralin Village FC posted a video tribute to “the heart and soul of our wee club and village”.
