There have been renewed calls for CCTV cameras to be installed at Lurgan Park after reports of fireworks being set off in the area.
DUP Councillor Peter Haire said he had been alerted on Sunday evening of children using fireworks at the popular local park.
And branded the activity “reckless”, he warned of the potential consequences of such actions.
“I called down myself to see what was happening and, to my great concern, witnessed a firework being set off while families and children were in the play park,” said Councillor Haire.
“This was reckless and completely unacceptable behaviour. The firework could have gone anywhere and could potentially have caused serious injury to children and families using the park.”
The local representative said that when he confronted those involved they fled, running off through the gates in the direction of Windsor Avenue.
In a bid to prevent incidents such as this, Councillor Haire said he was once again calling on ABC Council to install CCTV cameras in Lurgan Park.
“Those responsible need to be identified and, where appropriate, dealt with to the full extent of the law,” added Councillor Haire.
“Our parks should be safe places for families and children to enjoy — this type of behaviour cannot be allowed to continue.”
