Police are currently at the scene of a security alert in the Hoop Hill area of Lurgan this evening (Thursday).
A number of cordons have been put in place at the junctions with Hoop Hill Park and Trasna Way, and motorists and members of the public are being urged to avoid the area while officers deal with a suspicious object.
Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart said police are “currently investigating a suspicious object in the Hoop Hill Park area of Lurgan”.
“Residents have been evacuated from homes in Hoop Hill while the PSNI deal with the situation,” she said.
“This is not something we want to see or hear of in our community. Many residents, some of whom have mobility issues, have been evacuated from their homes tonight.
“Thank you to the emergency services for their work on the ground. I will keep everyone updated as more information becomes available.”
