A Lurgan woman who, along with an accomplice, tried to make off with over £300 worth of household goods from The Range has been handed a suspended sentence.
The 22-year-old’s legal representative told court: “This occurred just prior to her being sentenced to a probation order. This is just about to end and I would ask that your worship leave something hanging over her head.”
Sally Ann Finnegan, of Charles Street, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Prosecution outlined that on May 1, police received a report of a theft from Eurospar, Lurgan.
Staff stated that at 8.30pm a female had stolen items valued between £25 and £30 from the store.
The defendant was subsequently arrested for the offence. During interview she made full admissions and showed remorse, offering to pay restitution.
Then on August 13, police received a report of a theft from The Range at Meadow Lane in Portadown.
A member of security staff had observed two females leave the store with £346.41 worth of household goods without paying.
After confronting them in the shopping centre regarding this, they refused to remain and left.
When interviewed, Finnegan made no comment to questions put to her by police.
Defence counsel stated: “This occurred just prior to her being sentenced to a probation order. This is just about to end and I would ask that your worship leave something hanging over her head.”
The defendant was sentenced to four months in prison suspended for 12 months and was ordered to pay restitution of £25 to Eurospar, Lurgan.
