Three arrested in Lurgan in connection to violent dissident republican activity

Three people have been arrested in Co Armagh in connection to violent dissident republican activity.

Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland Terrorism Investigation Unit (TIU) conducted a number of searches and made the arrests in the Lurgan area today (Wednesday).

The male suspects, two aged 36 and one aged 46 were arrested and have been taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning.

A number of items were also seized which will now be subject to forensic examination. The police investigation continues.

DUP Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has welcomed the arrests.

“Arrests are just the first stage and no one has been brought before the courts but I commend the PSNI on this operation. I understand this operation is in relation to historical dissident republican activity,” said Ms Lockhart.

“I commend the police for their ongoing commitment to tackling terrorism in all its forms. Those with a warped mindset who justify terror need removed from our streets.

“This historical case is also a reminder to those who break the law that there will be no ‘sell by’ date on justice. Whether it was the PIRA or whatever variant from that organisation, where crime was committed, investigations will continue.

“As a society we have moved forward greatly, and it is important that those who seek to drag us back are brought to justice. They offer nothing but hurt and harm, destruction and division.”
