The much-anticipated Tim Hortons drive-thru restaurant will no longer be coming to Lurgan, Armagh I can exclusively reveal.
However, the site at Millennium Way is to be occupied by another drive-thru chain.
The news was confirmed today (Thursday) by architect Paul McCreanor of McCreanor Company Architects, who is acting on behalf of Millennium Way Developments.
He told Armagh I : “A big chain, who are not Tim Hortons, are still coming to the site.
“I am not able to say who they are at this point but it will be a drive-thru.”
A spokesperson for Tim Hortons told us: “At this time we are unable to comment about the site in Lurgan.”
The Tim Hortons development was given planning approval by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council planners in May, after details of the opening were first revealed the previous December.
The world-famous coffee and donut chain’s plans were for a stand alone development, built on what is currently described as a brownfield site.
It was expected that in the region of 10 new jobs would be created.
The Lurgan drive-thru was intended to be one of the franchise’s larger outlets, offering a floorspace of around 3,500 sq ft, with an outdoor seating area as well.
In June, Tim Hortons opened a branch in Meadow Lane, Portadown.
And another drive-thru is also planned for Bridgewater Retail Park in Banbridge, after an application for the proposal was submitted to council in May.
