Tributes have been paid to one of Lurgan’s “loveliest” ladies, who always had a smile and kind word for everyone she met.
Margaret Silcock – a valued member of Lurgan Junior High School’s auxiliary team – passed away peacefully at her home on December 18.
Her sudden passing has sent shockwaves throughout the school and local community where she was held in incredibly high regard.
Sharing their deep sadness and sincerest condolences, the Board of Governors at Lurgan Junior High School said of Margaret: “The Governors, Principal, staff and pupils of Lurgan Junior High School deeply regret the sudden passing of our esteemed colleague and friend, Margaret Silcock (née Thompson).
“Margaret was a valued and much-respected member of our auxiliary staff, and she will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of working with her.
“We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Margaret’s family and loved ones at this very sad and difficult time.
Adding to the sentiments expressed by the school, a former colleague continued: “Margaret was the loveliest lady, myself and the whole cleaning team are devastated, are thought and prayers are with her family and friends at this sad time.”
Another said: “The school community is deeply saddened by the loss of Margaret, a highly respected and valued member of our auxiliary team. Our thoughts and condolences are with her family during this difficult time.”
For years Margaret worked from a newsagents in Mountview, where she likewise made long-lasting friendships with all whom she encountered.
Said one person: “Really sorry to hear this sad news Margaret and Sandra are big characters in Mourneview estate really sad times my thoughts and prayers are with the whole family circle at this terrible time. Sleep well wee Margaret.”
Another added: “Lovely funny lady, loved her working in the newspaper shop in Mountview, always smiling. Sympathy to all the family as she was dearly loved so much by them all.”
A death notice described Margaret as the dearly loved daughter of Samuel and the late Renee, devoted and cherished mum of Samantha and her partner Matthew and Rebecca and her partner Jonny, loving sister of Sandra, grandmother of Jay and Theo, step-grandmother of Oscar and auntie of Chloe.
