Parents have been asked to “be aware of the dangers” following reports of young people accessing a building site on the Kilmore Road in Lurgan.

Councillor Liam Mackle says he has been contacted by concerned parents around children and young people accessing the site.

He commented: “Buildings sites can be very dangerous places, with open manholes, building equipment and rubble. There is a derelict building on the site which attracts young people but again this dangerous place which is full of hazards. Parents should be aware of the dangers and warn children about staying away.

“I have asked the relevant Agencies to liaise with the contractors about securing the site to prevent young people accessing it.”

North Lurgan & Drumgask Community Safety Engagement Forum echoed these concerns in a post on Facebook on Friday, saying: “Can parents please check on their children! There are children and young people at the building site on Kilmore Road!

The post added: “This is a very dangerous site. Please check the whereabouts of your children. Concerns for their safety are paramount.”

In recent months anti-social behaviour has proved to be an issue at building sites across the ABC Council area.

In February, vandals went on a rampage at a building site in Craigavon, daubing machinery with graffiti and completely destroying a work cabin.
