A Polish woman who bought a car from her former employer despite having no prior experience of driving appeared in court this week.
Renata Koslowska, 42, of Glanroy Avenue, Portadown, appeared before Craigavon Magistrates’ charged with driving without a licence and no insurance.
The court heard how the defendant had purchased a Mitsubishi Colt from her former employer despite having no prior driving experience, either in Northern Ireland or her native Poland.
On October 10, last year, she was stopped by police driving along Church Walk in Lurgan. When she was asked to produce her licence she told police that she didn’t have it on her.
Ask to produce it within seven days, she turned up to Lurgan police station six days later and wanted to apologise for lying to officers.
Koslowka’s defence solicitor told the court that his client’s comprehension for English was “really bad”.
He also told the court that she had taken the battery out of the car and placed it in the kitchen, adding. “she is now trying to sell the vehicle”.
District Judge Brian Archer fined the woman a total of £500, handed her nine penalty points and gave her 15 weeks to pay.
