A Gilford woman breached bail by asking another woman she is alleged to have assaulted for “cigarettes and drink”, court has heard.
The 48-year-old’s solicitor said that he had engaged with the defendant in regards to an injunction due to what he described as the alleged injured party’s “incessant” contact with her.
Nicola Irene Barry, of Castleview, appeared on foot of a breach of bail at Newry Magistrates’, sitting at Lisburn, via videolink from police custody on Monday.
It was heard that the defendant had been on bail for an alleged offence of common assault.
Defence solicitor Ruari Gillen informed the court that a bail application, which was opposed by police, was being made on behalf of Barry.
A constable outlined that on June 20, police received a report from the alleged injured party.
She claimed that the defendant had come into her home through an unlocked door and had demanded cigarettes and drink.
This was in breach of Barry’s bail conditions which included not to be intoxicated and to have no contact with the alleged injured party.
The constable commented that both parties live in the same street and it was felt that their addresses were “too close”.
Mr Gillen stated: “We have been instructed that the alleged injured party contacted the defendant on Saturday. She asked that when she was in the town would she pick up three bottles of wine for her.
“Ms Barry refused, she took herself down the this woman’s home and an argument ensued and the injured party then contacted police.”
He continued: “Ms Barry has been in contact with us about getting an injunction order put in place to stop the injured party from phoning her.
“She does not want to have any contact with the injured party. She lives alone and wants to keep herself to herself.”
District Judge Amanda Brady stated: “She has nothing in her record in the last four years. This was a breach and not the commission of further offences.
“Hopefully Ms Barry has go the message and I will release her on the same terms.”
The defendant was released on bail and her case was adjourned until July 16.
