A child was taken to hospital after being struck by a car whilst trying to get a bus to school on Tuesday morning.
The incident happened on the Belfast Road in Magheralin at around 7.30am.
Police and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended and the young girl was transferred to hospital for treatment to her injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.
Inspector Kerr said enquiries into the incident are continuing and that police would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have dashcam footage which may assist the investigation to contact 101 quoting reference 273 28/09/21.
Alliance Councillor Peter Lavery commented: “I know the thoughts of the whole community are with the child and her family and that we will wish her a speedy recovery.
“I have requested a meeting with officials in the Department of Infrastructure and local PSNI teams to get options on what additional road safety measures can be put in place in the village as well as what steps the police will be taking to enforce speed limits.
“Last week it was revealed that 37% of vehicles which pass the speed indicator device on the New Forge Road were travelling over the limit, so clearly there is an ongoing issue that needs addressed.”
