A County Armagh golfer has been selected for the Team Great Britain & Ireland squad headed to the Curtis Cup this month.
Annabel Wilson (20), who hails from Lurgan, and is ranked World Amateur no. 75, has been chosen as one of eight players to represent Great Britain & Ireland as they face off their US counterparts in Conwy, Wales.
Annabel has been a shining star in women’s golf in recent years, having won the 2019 Irish Close title, represented Ireland for the European Ladies’ Team Championship and the Home Internationals, and securing three top-10 finishes in American college tournaments this year.
Since the age of 11, Annabel has worked closely with PGA Golf Pro, Peter Martin as her coach, training at Colin Glen’s Leisure site in West Belfast where Martin is also Director of Golf. With a 9-hole golf course, state-of-the-art TopTracer driving range and gym facilities on-site, Colin Glen Leisure has been the perfect location for a golf pro in training.
Speaking on the recent announcement, Peter Martin commented: “Annabel is an incredibly talented golfer and the whole team at Colin Glen is thrilled to see her gaining the recognition she deserves. Annabel has trained with us here at Colin Glen Leisure since she was just 11 years old, and it’s been a pleasure to watch her go from strength to strength over the years.
We look forward to cheering her on at the Curtis Cup this month and wish the whole Great Britain and Ireland team the best of luck!”
Originally billed for 2020, the 41st Curtis Cup was postponed last year due to the ongoing pandemic and will be a chance for Team GB&I to reclaim the title after America’s 2018 win in New York. The tournament takes place from 26th – 28th August.
