THE first of two agricultural shows for County Armagh on back to back weekends gets underway this Saturday at Lurgan Park.
The Lurgan Show committee are now in the final stages of preparing for what will be the 101st show which will take place this Saturday, June 1.
Classes on the hill start at 8am under the careful watch of horse chairperson, Mr Alex Martin and his daughter and secretary, Pennie Bunting. With many qualifiers up for grabs, competition will be strong and entry again sees an increase on last year.
Judging for the other classes begins at 10am with all breeds of cattle, sheep, goat and poultry on view. It really is a day when country meets town and is an ideal opportunity for those who may not have the chance to see livestock daily to come along to the park and see up close the many different breeds which exist in Northern Ireland.
The parade is at 3pm and, as always, will show an impressive display of the best animals in the province.
With over 50 trade stands and 25 stalls in the craft marquee, visitors will be well catered for and the fun fair will amuse the younger generations.
The impressive EVO Bike display will have three displays throughout the show and there are other attractions too such as butter making, basket weaving, birds of prey and magic shows at noon and 4pm.
The pet show takes place at 2pm, with entry on the day available. The Mayor’s parade leaves the town at the police station at 11.30am proceeding through the town to enter the gates of the park at the Avenue Road with arrival estimated at noon.
The Lurgan and District Horse and Cattle Show Society are inviting vintage vehicle enthusiasts to enter vehicles in this year’s show.
The static display is open to all vintage, classic cars, lorries, tractors, motorbikes, stationary engines, American, customised and modified vehicles.
The entry fee per vehicle is £5, which includes admission to the show and a finisher’s award.
All vintage vehicles must enter the showgrounds via Windsor Avenue entrance. Entry forms are available from the section secretary: Mr John Harrison on 078 55007746 or simply enter on show day.

Adult entry is £6, with children (over five-years-old/under-16) and senior citizens at £3 and a family pass (two adults and four children) is £20.
