A major road scheme involving the resurfacing of almost two kilometres of the Middletown to Monaghan Road is due to start this weekend.
Transport Minister Danny Kennedy today, Monday, announced the capital investment in the roads network in the Armagh area, which will mean a number of temporary closures put in place.
Mr Kennedy said: “This scheme represents a significant investment in the roads infrastructure within the area and on completion, road users will quickly realise the long term benefits from the new road surface on this main cross border route.”
Resurfacing work and improvements are planned to take place on Monaghan Road and Main Street, Middletown from Saturday 13 September 2014. The work is scheduled for completion by late September and will help improve the structural condition of the main arterial route from Armagh City towards the border.
During the works, road closures and traffic diversions will be in place and access will only be available to local residents and to businesses and public buildings within the length of the closures.
The temporary road closures are listed below:
- Main Street, Middletown, closed from the north side junction of Coolkill Road – approximately 150metres border side of junction of Annagola Road on Saturday 13 September from 3pm – 6am Monday 15 September.
- A3 Monaghan Road, closed from Annagola Road – approximately 200metres south of Foyduff Road junction on Monday 15 September – Friday 19 September.
- Main Street, Middletown, closed from the north side of Coolkill Road – approx 150metres border side of junction with Annagola Road on Sunday 21 September from 6am – 6am Monday 22 September.
- A3 Monaghan Road closed from Annagola Road – approx 200metres south of the Foyduff Road junction on Monday 22 September – Friday 26 September.
Traffic diversions will be signposted and will involve travel via the following roads:
Northbound diversion – A28 Killylea Road and A28 Derrycourtney Road.
Southbound diversion – A29 Keady Road and B3 Derrynoose Road.
Road users are advised to obey road and lane closures and direction signs at all times and to cooperate with site personnel in the interests of safety whilst these improvement works are being carried out.
Transport NI aims to keep disruptions to a minimum, however, delays should be expected and drivers are asked to be patient and allow additional time when planning journeys in the area. For up to date traffic information you can visit: www.trafficwatchni.com.
