A MAN – believed to be in his 30s – collapsed and died during a mountain running event in South Armagh.
It is understood the man came from the Belfast area and had been competing in the last of a Winter Race Series on Slieve Gullion, organised by the 26 Extreme company, on Thursday night.
In a statement on their website, the organisers expressed their condolences to the man’s family.
“It is with regret that we announce that a competitor at the Winter Race Series Race 8 in Slieve Gullion last night, 21st February 2013, has died,” it read.
“Race Directors and staff of 26 Extreme Ltd would like to express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. We will not be releasing any further details of this tragic incident and we would ask for your understanding in this matter.
“We would like to emphasise that our immediate concern is for the family of the deceased. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with them at this difficult time.”
