A Caledon man was today sentenced to two months in jail for attempting to fraudulently obtain prescription medication.
At Dungannon Magistrates’ Court, 29-year-old Damion Loughran, of Dyan Road, admitted one count of fraud by false representation.
The court heard he had provided false information at a community pharmacy in an attempt to obtain medication that was not prescribed.
Mark Harvey, Assistant Director of Counter Fraud Services, Business Services Organisation, said: “At a time when the healthcare budget is facing significant challenges, it is important we send a clear a message that fraud will not be tolerated because of the direct impact it has on the delivery of frontline services.
“In this instance, the vigilance shown by staff, both in the community pharmacy and GP practice, ensured that this individual was unsuccessful in obtaining a potentially harmful quantity of medication.”
Counter Fraud Services are responsible for the investigation of all cases of suspected fraud across Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland.
