Appeal for information as men steal £800 in goods from Markethill supermarket

A Markethill supermarket has hit out at alleged thieves who they say failed to pay for £800 in goods.

J.D. Hunter & Co Supermarket shared CCTV stills on Facebook yesterday (Thursday), asking for members of the public to identify them.

The incident is alleged to have occurred on Saturday, September 28, and, as of Friday afternoon, the social media post has over 450 shares.

It reads: “These individuals failed to pay for high value goods to the value of £800 on Saturday 28th September. Travelling in a light green Volvo Estate REG 04-MN-???? Can the power of social media please assist us with our enquiries. PLEASE SHARE! Thank you.”

The PSNI have since confirmed they are investigating the incident.

Sergeant Cordner said: “Police received a report on Wednesday 9th October that a number of items were stolen from a shop in the area on Saturday 28th September. It was reported that a quantity of alcohol and other items were taken during the incident by two males.

“The males then left the shop and made off in a light blue coloured Volvo car following the incident.

“Our enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone with any information in relation to this incident, to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 896 09/10/24.

“Alternatively, information can be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers, who guarantee complete anonymity, on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org .”
