A County Armagh charity group are set to host a cross-county ‘Walk-A-Thon’ to raise money for NI Chest Heart and Stroke and for their own outreach work.

The walk – which will go from Markethill, to Hamiltonsbawn, to Richhill, to Armagh and back to Markethill – is in memory of Adrian Turbitt, a popular Richhill man who passed away in 2018, at the age of 46 due to a heart attack.

Organised by Christ Within Markethill, the walk will kick off at 9am on June 3.

There will also be sponsorship sheets and collection buckets available to raise vital funds for these two worthwhile causes.

Christ Within Markethill are a locally-based Christian fellowship to be found on the Main Street of the County Armagh town.

Set up last year, their aim is to reach out into the local community, through the organisation of food banks, coffee mornings and other charity endeavours.

Stanley Kingsmill, the secretary of Christ Within, and the father-in-law of Adrian, says that the walk will last approximately 18 miles, with those walking stopping for refreshments at Costcutter Hamiltonsbawn, Fruitfield SuperValu and Armagh Baptist Church.

The walkers will then return to Christ Within Markethill for fellowship and food.

Speaking on the Christ Within outreach centre, which has recently been registered with the Charity Commission, Stanley says that the group’s important ministry is “just off the ground”.

He explained: “It’s cross-community, for anyone at all with a need. We’re from all different backgrounds.

“There is a crisis within the community at the moment, with young families struggling. We want to reach out into the community.

“We have people call in every Saturday morning for our coffee morning.”
