A total of 124 Housing Executive properties in Markethill will be receiving new windows as part of a replacement scheme.
While the scheme will not begin until May 2025, the news has been welcomed DUP Alderman Gareth Wilson.
The Cusher representative said: “I am delighted to learn that a window replacement scheme has been agreed for Housing Executive stock in the Markethill town area for May 2025 and that will of course be welcome news for tenants across the town. I thank the Housing Executive sincerely for this work.
“I have taken queries over quite some time about the condition of some of the windows and the fact that many of them are now in a state that is not conducive to good energy efficiency and are a source of heat loss in homes.
“In this era where energy costs are significant and there is a real emphasis on energy efficiency, the fact that many windows in Housing Executive homes are sources of drafts and heat loss means that residents are spending more on heating and energy when they could be saving money if these sources of heat loss were resolved.”
He continued: “Whilst, of course, air circulation is vital in all homes, it is important that areas such as windows and doors are not allowing significant heat loss and drafts as that only makes a home uncomfortable.
He concluded: “I thank the Housing Executive locally for their efforts and updates on this issue and I welcome the commitment to maintenance with the news that a window scheme is scheduled for next year.
“I trust this plan will come to fruition and not be derailed as previous window schemes were as residents will be looking forward to these upgrades to their homes.”
