Detectives granted extra 36 hours to question man on suspicion of murder in Mountnorris

Detectives investigating the murder of Chrissy Burns in Mountnorris have today (Saturday) been granted a court extension of an additional 36 hours to question a man on suspicion of his murder.

A 39-year-old was arrested on suspicion of the murder of following the discovery of Mr Burns’ body in the property in Cusher Green on Thursday.

Police had received a report at around 11.30am of a concern for safety.

Officers and colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended the property but Mr Burns was located deceased at the scene with serious head and facial injuries.

Speaking on Friday, Detective Chief Inspector Gary Robinson, said: “Our thoughts are with Mr Burns’ family and loved ones at this distressing time as they try to come to terms with their tragic loss.

“A man, aged 39, who was arrested on suspicion of murder, remains in police custody.

“Our team continues to work at pace to establish the circumstances surrounding Mr Burns’ death and I would reiterate our appeal to anyone who may have information that could assist us, to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 573 04/09/25.
