Markethill and District Bowling Club celebrates most successful season in history

NIBA Division 2 League Champions

Markethill and District Outdoor Bowling Club is celebrating its most successful season to date, after lifting a string of titles and individual honours.

In what the club has described as a “history-making” year, members brought home silverware at all levels.

Among the highlights was the men’s team winning the NIBA Division 2 League Title for the very first time – finishing the season with an impressive 10 straight victories. They also claimed the NIBA Super 6s Championship, another first in the club’s history.

The Ladies’ Section – founded only four years ago – has also gone from strength to strength. This season they secured the Joyce Kavanagh Cup and Mary Moore Cup, adding to their hat-trick of NIWBA Junior League titles in recent years.

On the individual front, Markethill players shone across multiple competitions:

Two members won the NIBA Mixed Pairs Championship – their third time lifting the title in four years.

A junior bowler finished runner-up in the Under 18 Singles.

Club representatives reached the semi-finals of the NIBA Singles and Triples Championships.

The NIWBA Ladies Singles Champion and the NIWBA Senior Fours Champions both hail from Markethill.

A spokesperson for the club said: “This has been the most successful season in our history and it’s a huge testament to the hard work and commitment of all our members. Markethill and District Bowling Club is very much on the up.”

While celebrating on the green, the club is also looking ahead to the future, with ongoing discussions with council around improving the condition of their playing surface.
