The Markethill community has been left saddened following the passing of 20-year-old Alex Ruddy, who died peacefully at home on Thursday, surrounded by his loving family.
Alex, of Edenview, was the dearly loved son of Gillian and Keith, cherished brother of Josh and Chloe, pet brother of Hugo, and grandson of Anne and Cecil Willis, and Irene and the late John Ruddy.
Tributes have poured in for the much-loved young man, remembered by all who knew him as an inspiration who fought his illness with remarkable bravery.
One person wrote: “Alex was a genuinely lovely young man who fought an incredible fight. No more suffering for Alex, only perfect peace, but I cannot imagine your pain.”
Another added: “Completely heartbroken for you all. I don’t think I’ve ever met such an inspirational young man as Alex – keeping you all in prayer.”
Many recalled – including former colleague’s at Hunter’s Supermarket – his warm personality and kind spirit, describing him as “a real gentleman”, “loveable, pleasant and brave”, and “a young man whose smile lit up the room.”
Alex’s funeral service will take place in St Mark’s Parish Church, Armagh, on Sunday, September 14 at 2.30pm, followed by interment in the adjoining churchyard.
The family home is strictly private. Family flowers only are requested, with donations in lieu, if desired, to Marie Curie and Evora Hospice (Southern Area Hospice) via K G Cheevers and Son, Funeral Directors, 58f Hamiltonsbawn Road, Armagh, BT60 1HW.
Alex will be lovingly remembered by his heartbroken mummy, daddy, brother, sister, grandparents, wider family circle and friends.
