‘One of the nicest girls ever’ as tributes pour in for woman killed in Markethill road collision

Judith McMullan Whitecross

A Co Armagh community has been plunged into mourning following the death of a young woman in Markethill on Monday evening.

Judith McMullan, from Whitecross, died when the motorcycle she was travelling on collided with a car on the Mowhan Road shortly before 7.45pm.

Judith was the daughter of Sammy and Roberta and loving sister to Faith, Linzi, Kirsten and Robert.

Hundreds of tributes have been pouring in for Judith, described as “one of the nicest girls ever”.

The sense of heartbreak in the community is palpable; a numbing of the senses as many come to terms with the shock; another loss on our roads.

Judith was “a beautiful person in and out”, she was “a diamond” – just some of the tributes being paid to a young woman with so much life left to give.

One neighbour wrote: “I couldn’t have had a lovelier neighbour..so full of life and always smiling.”

While another, who knew Judith through working in her local takeaway, commented: “I couldn’t believe when I heard this last night. Judith was a regular in the chippy an abs beautiful girl inside and out, always happy and full of crack and always joked she needed to change her order cuz I knew her on the phone every time, she will be sorely missed by many thinking of her whole family circle and friends and this heartbreaking time.”

Another recalled: “Judith was such a lovely child in school.”

Markethill High School released a statement on behalf of The Governors, Principal, Staff & Pupils.

It read: “As a school family, we are devastated to learn of the death of Miss Judith McMullan, adored sister of our much loved colleagues, Faith (Governor & Head of MFL) and Kirsten (Head of English), as a result of a road traffic accident on July 31, 2023.

“The McMullan Family are an extremely well known and hugely respected family within this locality and we offer our deepest sympathies and prayerful support to Judith’s parents, Sammy & Roberta, her siblings, Faith (& Fabricio), Linzi (& Simon), Kirsten and Robert (& Louise), her Granny, Sally Edgar, and to Judith’s cherished nieces & nephews as well.

“We also extend our sincere condolences to Judith’s wider family circle and her dear friends at this very difficult time.

“One of our favourite songs performed by Kirsten is “Your ways are higher than mine” so we trust and pray that the steadfast faith of Judith’s family and friends will comfort them in the days, weeks and months ahead. Mr C. Berry & Mrs S. Hargan.”

Funeral details have not been released at this stage.
