New £25m Gaol hotel plans on public show

REVISED plans for the £25 million redevelopment of the historic Armagh Gaol have gone on show.

The former women’s prison is to be converted into a 4* hotel and spa.

The development will also include seven retail units and a total of 32 apartments.

One of the properties at Gaol Square – number six – would be transformed into a mix of residential and office accommodation.

At the same time, there are also plans to change the flow of traffic around the Mall. A one-way system would be put in place and the road junctions at the front of the Gaol would be reconfigured to allow for this.

The new plans – with further information having been lodged with the DoE – are now open to the public.

They can be viewed at www.planningni.gov.uk or at the local area planning office at Marlborough House.

Members of the public now have 14 days to submit any correspondence in relation to the proposed development.

The scheme is a joint private and public venture involving the Trevor Osborne Property Group, Armagh City and District Council and the Prince’s Regeneration Trust.
