Film fans will get their first taste of movie heaven this week – with the opening of Craigavon’s new £4.5 million Omniplex.
This state-of-the-art complex will boast eight screens and a giant ‘MAXX’ screen.
And add to that four new restaurants and this new development will be a huge draw for the area.
One of the confirmed restaurants is Blue Chicago – an American style diner.
Omniplex has confirmed that the development will receive what has been described as a ‘soft opening’ tomorrow (Wednesday).
That had always been the given date for opening when revealed in January.
It has now been reported that an official opening will then take place this Friday, March 27.
The Omniplex is bringing more than 100 new jobs to the area and, when advertised recently, thousands actually expressed an interest when the cinema manager’s job was posted.
Around a third of the new positions are recruited within the Omniplex itself and the majority within the restaurants.
The development is based on the old Irish Road Motors site at Highfield Heights in Craigavon and will now become one of the biggest Omniplex cinemas here, second only in size to the cinema chain’s Lisburn complex.
Already Omniplex is lining up special features for the new complex, including its participation in the forthcoming Avengers triple bill promotion.
The development comes in a remarkably short period of times, plans having only been lodged for approval last July.
It brings a vacant site back into productive use, creating a fantastic entertainment complex and another huge boost for County Armagh.
It is the latest addition to the Omniplex chain, which has numerous cinemas both north and south, including at Market Street in Armagh and the Quays Shopping Centre in Newry and Lisburn.
