VETERAN Ulster Unionist Councillor Robert Turner has been elected as the new Lord Mayor of Armagh City and Ditrict Council at the annual general meeting held at the Palace tonight (Monday).
The Tandragee farmer has previously held the post of Mayor and chaired all of the major committees on Armagh Council.
One of the longest-serving members of Armagh Council, Mr Turner replaces the SDLP’s Sharon Haughey-Grimley, who has fulfilled the role during a busy and historic year for the city and district.
The new Deputy Lord Mayor of Armagh is Sinn Fein Councillor Gerard Paul White, from Tullysaran, currently serving his first council term.
He will replace Ulster Unionist Sylvia McRoberts in that role.
This will be the penultimate annual general meeting before Armagh Council amalgamates with Banbridge and Craigavon Councils in two years time.
