Work on a £200,000 upgrade to traffic signals in Newry has been completed.
The project centred on the lights at the junctons of Trevor Hill, Sugar Island Road, Kildare Street and Upper and was designed to aid road safety and traffic progression at this busy city centre location.
This work also included upgrading the existing controlled pedestrian crossing on Kildare Street to a puffin crossing and also resurfacing of the junction.
Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon said: “This significant investment to upgrade the signals will benefit all who will travel through and across this junction by improving traffic progression and pedestrian safety at this key junction in Newry City Centre.”
“I would like to thank the users of the existing facility and particularly to the local residents for their patience and cooperation while these works were completed.”
The improvement work involved the replacement of the entire traffic signals and traffic detection system along with minor alterations to the layout.
