£350,000 road improvement scheme to commence in Poyntzpass

A £350,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on the A27 Newry Road in Poyntzpass will commence on Monday, June 10.

The scheme was announced today by Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd.

The resurfacing will extend for approximately 1,800 metres from approximately 600 metres north of junction of the Demoan Road to the junction with the Gambles Road.

Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially completed by Friday, July 5.

To facilitate the works, the Department for Infrastructure have said it will be necessary to implement a Monday to Friday road closure in the area.

It will be in place between 9.30am and 4.30pm  from Monday, June 10 until Friday, June 5.

The dates and duration of the road closures will be dependent on the progress of the scheme and on favourable weather conditions.

To help ensure the safety of road users and road workers the public is asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions and follow the signed diversionary route.

It will run via A27 Church Street, A27 Chapel Street, A27 Tandragee Road, A27 Poyntzpass Road, A27 Auglish Road, A27 Scarva Road, B3 Markethill Road, B3 Moyrourkan Road, B3 Tandragee Road, A28 Gosford Road, A27 Newry by-pass, A1 Newry by-pass and A1 Tandragee Road.

Access for the emergency services and property owners will be maintained however some delays may be experienced.

The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience, however road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.
