Ambulance staff member ends nightshift at Daisy Hill Hospital to find car window smashed

A member of the NI Ambulance Service who had just completed a night shift was left horrified to find their car window had been smashed in an attempted break-in outside Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry.

Police have appealed for information following the report of criminal damage to a vehicle in the Hospital Road area of the city this morning (Wednesday).

Sergeant McCarthy said: “Police received a report shortly before 7.40am this morning, of an attempted break in to a vehicle in the area.

“Enquiries are ongoing and we would ask that anyone who witnessed this damage taking place or who may have dash-cam footage to call police on 101, quoting reference 242 of 25/01/23.”

You can also make a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/ or via Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org/

Helena Young, Alliance representative in Newry commented: “The car is clearly parked in an ambulance staff parking bay; the person who carried out this disgusting act could obviously see that.

“No one deserves this but, particularly at this time, when our healthcare workers are working under very challenging conditions and experiencing extreme pressure this is an even more despicable act.”
