An attack which left a woman fighting for her life on the outskirts of Newry has been described as ‘horrific’.
The woman was assaulted in the Tandragee Road area of the city in the early hours of this morning.
“This was an absolutely horrific attack which has a left a woman with life threatening injuries,” said Sinn Fein’s Mickey Brady.
“There are few other details at the moment but obviously our thoughts and prayers are with the victim whom we wish a full and fast recovery.
“The local community has been left in shock at such a callous attack. People in this area would be quite close knit. This is a quiet area and such a brutal assault has caused genuine fear and unrest.
“I would urge anybody with any information on this despicable attack to contact the PSNI.”
Two men are currently in custody helping police with their investigation.
