This Christmas Day will see the third year of the Bite ‘n’ Banter for Christmas event to be held in the Gateway Club at Kilmorey Street in Newry.
Organised by a local group of volunteers, the core aim of the day is to provide a place for anyone, young or old, who would like to enjoy some company, food and a bit of entertainment who might otherwise be alone, or in need on Christmas Day.
A spokesperson explained: “We do not judge or discriminate and persons are welcomed regardless of age or situation.
“The Gateway Club have again generously provided us with the use of their hall for the day and, being a central location with good access, we hope to welcome you from 1 to 5pm for some food, light refreshments and, above all, some good company.
“The day is totally anonymous and free and we rely solely on the generosity of our local community, both businesses and individuals, who have in the past two years been extremely benevolent in their offers of food, gifts and services.”
Anyone wishing to join in and benefit from the day can do so by dropping in from 1–5pm or calling one of the enquiry lines on 07783 671217 or 07894 746940.
Anyone wishing to donate on the day can do so by offering a plated dinner on the day at the club from 12 noon until 3pm (please wrap in clingfilm or foil without gravy).
