A cache of firearms has been discovered in south Armagh.
The find of 10 guns in Jerettspass – linked to criminal gangs operating in the area – were uncovered as part of a National Crime Agency officers (NCA) investigation into organised crime.
Newry and Armagh Sinn Féin MLA Liz Kimmins commented: “This has been described by the Police as a significant arms seizure.
“This is very welcome news, it reduces the ability of these organised criminal gangs who prey on our communities and in particular the most vulnerable.
“The removal of these firearms from our streets will undoubtedly ensure a safer place for all.
“Drugs cause untold harm in our communities and those involved in this trade of death and destruction must be pursued, apprehended and face the full rigours of the law.”
An NCA spokesperson said an update will be issued later today (Friday).
