A leading cancer charity has recognised the good people of Newry and Armagh for their tremendous efforts to help in times of need.
It has been revealed that Newry and Armagh has the second highest number of people on the stem cell donor register of the 18 constituencies in Northern Ireland.
And the local MP Micky Brady has been presented with a certificate at Westminster on behalf of all those people.
The presentation was made by the blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan.
Mr Brady has commended the large number of people in Newry and Armagh who have signed the stem cell register.
He said: “I was absolutely delighted to attend this event and receive this recognition on behalf of the donors in the constituency.
“The importance of life-saving stem cell transplant should not and cannot be underestimated.
“I am very proud that we have such a high number of people who have volunteered to give someone a second chance at life.
“Donating stem cells is straightforward, but it could make an enormous difference to someone with no other chance of a cure.
“I would now encourage even more people to sign up as donors.”
