Co Armagh sportswear firm selling off entire warehouse stock to raise money for Grimley family

Playr-Fit

A Co Armagh-based sportswear company is selling off its entire warehouse stock this weekend with all proceeds going towards the Grimley family.

Playr-Fit, which is based in the Cloughoge Business Park, outside Newry, decided to hold the event on the back of the overwhelming tragedy which saw three children left without a mother and father earlier this month.

Kieran Quinn, a co-founder of the company – and coach of Dromitee GAA – said his club players had been discussing doing some form of fundraising for the family at training earlier this week.

“The whole sale came about very quickly,” Kieran explained. “I’m a coach with Dromintee and we trained in the gym on Tuesday night. One of the lads came and asked if there was something they could do as a senior team and help raise money for the Grimley family. So far, they have raised £400.

“But driving home from training that night, it got me thinking; Playr-Fit should be doing something because it is that sporting community. I dealt with Paddy [Grimley] previously; he would have ordered from us when we were based back in Culloville; and I know Niall [Patrick’s brother] as well.

“So, that night, I rang Steven [Burns, business partner] and said we’ll have a warehouse sale; whatever is in the office it can all go. We’ll get the money and donate it to the family and he agreed – it happened fairly quickly.

“That was Tuesday night and by Wednesday morning we had it advertised and it went mad. It’s just doing something within that GAA-sporting community – it’s such a tight-knit group.

“I have four kids myself and you think, God forbid, if anything was to happen! It’s shocking what’s happened; there’s a lot of work to be done by the family left behind and anything we can do to help that, we will.”

Kieran, whose business is growing each year, says they are in a privileged position and are hoping to raise a substantial sum towards for the fundraising.

The warehouse sale at their HQ opens from the following hours this weekend: Friday 5-9pm; Saturday 9am-3pm; and Sunday 9am-3pm.

So far, a GoFundMe page set up by the Grimley family has raised in excess of 3£30,000. You can continue to donate here.
