Improvements are to be carried out to visitor facilities at Slieve Gullion Forest Park.
Over the coming months, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council will be upgrading visitor information facilities and restrooms.
This will also include accessible amenities for disabled visitors as well as new storage areas.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Roisin Mulgrew said: “Slieve Gullion Forest Park is a premier four-star visitor attraction which currently provides a fantastic resource for both the local community and over 350,000 tourists to the park.
“The park has received significant investment and, with this, the council is striving to provide five-star facilities which will further enhance the visitor experience.
“The council is carrying out these improvements in response to visitor feedback, which highlighted the need for improved facilities to cater for the increasing numbers.”
Contractor CGDM began work in late January, with the project expected to be completed by the end of June.
The contractual work will result in the short term reduction in parking areas, but council says temporary parking will be provided at peak times to meet visitor demand.
