Police are trying to identify the driver of a car which tried to evade police by driving down the wrong side of a dual carriageway before making off on foot.
Officers from the Slieve Gullion South neighbourhood policing team noticed a suspicious vehicle driving erratically within the area of Abbey Way in Newry on Sunday evening.
Despite the best efforts of the driver police caught up with the vehicle on the Warrenpoint dual carriageway.
A police spokesperson said: “The driver resorted to an incredibly dangerous manoeuvre driving on the wrong side of the carriageway endangering not only himself but that of other road users.
“The driver felt the pressure of the police presence with neighbourhood and B LPT forcing them to abandon the vehicle.”
Forensic enquiries are now ongoing to assist police suspicions as to the identity of the driver.
