Elderly woman robbed by two men in balaclavas as she got off bus in Newry

An elderly woman was robbed of her handbag by two men in balaclavas as she got off bus in Newry.

Police are appealing for information following the incident yesterday morning, Thursday June 6.

Sergeant Smith said: “Just before 11.40am we received a report that a woman aged in her 60s had been getting off a bus in the Chancellors Road area when she was approached by two men wearing balaclavas.

“One of the men held the victim while the other stole her handbag containing her purse and phone.

“They then made off in a light coloured car in the direction of the Dublin Road.

“The woman was uninjured however has been left badly shaken by her ordeal.

“I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to anyone with CCTV or other footage that could assist with enquiries, to contact police on 101 quoting reference 632 of 06/06/24.”
