A fantastic new glamping site is being planned for the village of Meigh.
The development – on a site on Mulhollands Lane – is the latest such tourist-minded facility being proposed for the area.
In this instance, the applicant is Owen King, from Newry, who has lodged his plans with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.
He is hoping to create a site for tourist camping and glamping pods as part of a significant investment in the area.
The plans are for six “accommodation units/pods”, as well as vehicle access and parking, with 11 spaces identified. There would also be a dedicated bin compound for guests to dispose of their rubbish.

The proposals detail considerable landscaping, together with footpaths, screening and planting and open space and play area.
Visitors to the site will also enjoy the addition of communal patio areas and a dedicated barbecue area.
Each of the pods would boast a bedroom/living area, with a super king size bed. There would also bed en suite toilet and shower facilities, and a kitchenette too.
An area of decking leads out on to the patio – with plenty of room for deckchairs and sunloungers and individual barbecues too! – with bins and heating to the rear of the properties.
The specific location is 275 metres east of 19 Mullhollands Lane, on what is currently described as “agricultural” land.
The proposals will now be advertised shortly with a decision to follow in due course.
And if successful, it will be the latest boost for an area really developing its tourist offering.
In January it was revealed that a new first-class leisure and recreation centre is to be built at Camlough Lake at a cost of £2.8 million.
Separate to that again will a new glamping site overlooking the lake set to open a little later this year. Karl Toner has been physically working on the project for almost 12 months – before that, the concept was 10 years in the making.
