A man who was found in possession of heroin has been fined at Newry Magistrates’.
Court heard the 33-year-old had one previous relevant conviction but this offence predated it.
Ailonas Geruli, of Talbot Street in the city pleaded guilty to possession of a Class A drug on Wednesday.
Court heard that on December 17, 2017, police attended a property on Talbot Street, Newry.
During a search of the house officers located two metal wraps of a suspected Class A drug.
Geruli was arrested and when interviewed confirmed that the substance was heroin which he said belonged to himself.
Court heard that the drugs were found to be 0.18g and 0.5g of heroin.
Defence counsel stated that the defendant had been convicted of a similar offence in January of last year, adding that this offence predated this and that he had not offended since.
Geruli was ordered to pay a fine of £250, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within four weeks.
