Firefighters are currently tackling a huge blaze on Bernish Viewpoint in south Armagh.
Large flames and billowing smoke can be seen for miles around this evening (Sunday).
The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
Newry and Armagh MLA Liz Kimmins has condemned those involved in starting gorse fires on the mountain range just outside Newry.
The Sinn Féin MLA said that not only do they put lives at risk but they are also diverting the vital resources of the emergency services.
“This is a disgrace and those who have started this horse fire should be ashamed of themselves,” said Ms Kimmins.
“Not only do these reckless actions put lives at risk but they are also diverting the vital resources of the emergency services at this crucial time.
“We are in a time of uncertainty and crisis. The last thing we need is this type of serious criminal anti social actions. It must stop and stop now”.
A NIFRS spokesperson said: “NIFRS are currently dealing with a fire on Camlough mountain/ Bernish Road area of Newry. The incident is on going and we have fire crews at the scene.”
