Five men have been charged following a shooting incident in Newry on Monday.
Detectives investigating a shooting incident in the Altmore Gardens area of the city have charged five men aged 23, 27, 28, 29, and 29 with a number of offences.
The charges include” aiding and abetting; possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances; possession of an offensive weapon; obstructing police; assisting offenders; and taking and driving away a motor vehicle.
All five are due to appear today at Newry Magistrates’ Court today.
As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the PPS.
Speaking after the incident earlier this week, Sinn Fein councillor Liz Kimmins said: “This was a extremely reckless act which endangered the lives of those in the house. There is a genuine anger locally about this criminal act.
“Our community is fortunate that we’re not dealing with a tragedy.
She added: “There is no place for guns on our streets. Anyone with information should contact the PSNI”.
