The countdown for Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson’s Charity Walk and Family Fun Day ‘Fun in the Forest’ has well and truly begun.

The event, which will be held on Saturday, May 12, in Castlewellan Forest Park, will be a day for families to enjoy various activities and take part in a walk for the charity MYMY.

MYMY is a local voluntary and community sector counselling organisation which aims to support families and communities dealing with issues that affect mental and physical health, including bereavement, self-harming and financial problems.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, councillor Roisin Mulgrew caught up with the talented Finbar Keaveney who, along with the Booze Bros, will perform on the day.

Councillor Mulgrew said: “It was fantastic to meet with Finbar and brief him on all the exciting activities that will take place on the Family Fun Day, including archery, a climbing wall, clay pigeon shooting, arts and crafts and much much more.

“Not only will this terrific event appeal to local visitors and tourists alike, but it will also benefit a worthwhile charity, MYMY, with the money raised from admission going to support its work.”

The gates will open to the public in the Forest Park at 11am with the activities starting at 12noon.

Admission charges are £10 for families or £5 for individuals, with registration for the walks taking place on the morning of the event and performers will be on the big stage from 1pm through to 5pm.
