A fundraising effort has been launched to support the family of a Poyntzpass mother-of-four who may have been “small in stature” but whose “light shone globally”.
Rosemary Haughian – known affectionately as ‘Wee Rosie-Rosebud’ – passed away “all too quickly” at hospital on April 22, 2025.
The young mother had been courageously fighting breast cancer for a period of three years before being admitted to hospital with a suspected infection.
Sadly, less than three weeks after her admittance to hospital, she tragically passed away leaving behind her partner, and four beloved children, Eva, Daniel, Leia and Aidan.
Described as “small in stature” but with an “enormous personality and capacity to love”, Rosemary was well recognised for her humanitarian work at home and overseas.
Abroad, Rosemary had spent time working with children less fortunate in Brazil and had contributed to building a school in Romania.
At home – through her career with the Simon Community – Rosemary was closely engaged in fighting homelessness in Northern Ireland.
As a volunteer and a mentor, “her ability to give seemed endless”.
Yet, “of all her escapades and adventures”, Rosemary’s greatest accomplishment is said to be becoming a mother of four beautiful children, now aged 11, nine, seven and five.
Just over a month on from her death, a GoFundMe page had now been launched to help alleviate some of the “financial stress” and to help the family “hold on to their little home – which Rosemary loved so dearly”.
The GoFundMe page explains: “Her partner is now struggling with the loss of his best friend and his rock.
“Left as a single parent he is directly dealing with the aftermath. The children’s mental health, balancing a job, an avalanche of bills, it’s just an uphill battle from here on in.
“The four young children will have to navigate life without their mummy.”
Since it was launched on Monday May 26, the fundraising effort has already raised over £1,400 of its £4,500 target and is continuing to climb.
