Glen Dimplex plans huge multi-million pound development at its Newry operation

Global heating and ventilation giants Glen Dimplex are planning a multi-million pound development at their Newry base.

The company has submitted a pre-application notice to Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.

Such notifications are required when the proposals fall within the ‘major’ category.

And, to that end, a public consultation event will take place in the Canal Court Hotel later this month when the company will unveil its intentions.

Little is known at this stage of the future plans but it is understood to represent an investment of many millions of pounds at their Greenbank Industrial Estate home.

The works would involve demolition and refurbishment on site, with new north and south warehouse extensions.

It is also hoped to build a new three-storey office and welfare facility to the east of the existing Glen Dimplex factory.

Works would also include the construction of parking areas and associated siteworks.

Glen Dimplex has operations within both Northern Ireland and the Republic, as well as right across Europe and as far as the United States of America, China, Australia and New Zealand.

The company website states: “As a privately owned business with a 50 year heritage in manufacturing, Glen Dimplex Group is alive with entrepreneurial spirit and driven by a steadfast belief in people and partnerships.

“Glen Dimplex Group works across an international footprint in heating and ventilation, flame, precision cooling and consumer appliances.

“Our portfolio of products and solutions span the living and working environment, all created with a simple and shared mindset of empowering daily life.”

It is not known at this stage what the Newry proposals would mean in terms of potential job creation. But more information will be revealed at the Newry public event.

Neighbours within 100 metres of the development site – as well as local councillors and MLAs – will be written to shortly to advise them. Any feedback received will then be used to shape final proposals before an application for full permission is submitted.
